The RMQSI Knowledge Center was established as a means of facilitating industry and government access to publications, tools, data/information, training and expertise to improve the Reliability (R), Maintainability (M) of products and systems. The acronym “RMQSI” combines the initials of those technical activities with those of Quanterion Solutions Incorporated (QSI), stressing the company’s role in facilitating the knowledge. The Center will not only transition Department of Defense (DoD)-developed techniques and processes in the spirit of the Department’s technology transfer and commercialization policies, but it will also take advantage of the ever-expanding range of commercial technology as currently being recognized by new initiatives like Technology Domain Awareness. The classic definition of reliability is “the ability of a system or component to perform its required functions under stated conditions for a specified period of time”, so the Knowledge Center will include a broad range of topics that impact this ability, and are impacted by this ability.

The Knowledge Center experience base is derived from performing extensive sponsor-funded research studies under competitive contracts such as a number of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) efforts and Information Analysis Center (IAC) programs (the staff has 25-plus years’ experience in the operation of the Reliability Information Analysis Center (RIAC), as well as the Reliability Analysis Center (RAC) before that). In addition, QSI has also applied state-of-the-art approaches for many sectors of commercial industry as well as for DoD agencies, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Aerospace & Space Agency (NASA), the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Agency (NOAA), and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The company has taught the basics of reliability to hundreds of reliability practitioners through its widely recognized instructor-led “Reliability 101” training course, its 5-part “REPERTOIRE” on-line courses (reflecting the American Society of Quality Certified Reliability Engineer (ASQ CRE) Body of Knowledge), and its “Introduction to Reliability” 8-course on-line video training series. The diversity of the company’s experience has been the backbone of many widely used guidance publications and tools such as the five editions of the popular “Reliability Toolkit” series.

While the company has staff at various locations around the country, the RMQSI Knowledge Center is headquartered on the campus of the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly). In the near future, the Center will relocate to the new SUNY Poly Research Innovation Network for Technology Convergence (SPRINT) facility, specifically dedicated to the technology transfer objectives cited above. We invite you to take advantage of our Center’s products and services and invite you to let us know how we can help improve your products and systems.
