Reliability, Availability and Maintainability Modeling – Part II

Course Description

Quanterion’s Reliability, Availability Maintainability (RAM) Modeling training is separated into two different courses. Part 1 is a three-day course that addresses the mathematics of the fundamental modeling approaches, while Part 2 is a two-day course that takes a more in-depth look at the application of specific modeling techniques and how they can be used to estimate and improve a system’s availability.

The second two-day course in this training series extends upon the basic principles presented in Part I of the RAM Modeling course to cover complex modeling techniques, with an emphasis on maintainability modeling, and practical applications of these tools and analyses.

Who Should Take the Course

Design engineers, reliability specialists, and product/ program managers will benefit from the course. A familiarity of basic calculus and statistics may be helpful but is not necessary.

What the Student Will Learn

After a brief refresher of the general terms and mathematics introduced in the RAM Modeling Part I, this course dives into some of the more sophisticated modeling techniques, including different types of redundancy, state-based models and dependent event (common cause failure) modeling. The student will also learn about the different metrics used to quantify a system’s maintainability and availability, the steps to an effective RCM program, and the techniques to determine the optimum part replacement intervals for Preventive Maintenance (PM) activities. The course also addresses the different methods used to model system availability, while also introducing the concept of supportability as it pertains to a system’s operational readiness.

Presenter(s) Biography

RichWisniewskiMr. Wisniewski is a Senior Reliability Engineer at Quanterion Solutions and has more than 30 years’ experience in applying reliability, maintainability and safety engineering design, analysis, testing and screening methods and failure analysis and field support techniques on a variety of commercial products and military equipment/systems. Programs include radar, microwave/RF sensor systems, flight controls, mission computers, fixed and rotary winged full authority digital engine controls, regenerative liquid propellant guns, lightweight howitzers, and commercial and military hybrid electric vehicle drive train components. At Quanterion, he leads efforts to support government and industry customers in designing reliability/quality into products and systems, solve product reliability problems and identify corrective actions using techniques such as electrical stress analyses, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, standard statistical analysis, and the collection, analysis and modeling of failure data.
