UTICA, N.Y. (April 2026) – Quanterion Solutions Incorporated, a defense contractor based in Utica, NY, was recently awarded a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) contract by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

The contract explores the feasibility of modernizing national defense platform software leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Quanterion will be spearheading research, analysis and testing to benefit critical defense missions over the six-month contract together with University of North Carolina Wilmington’s (UNCW) Congdon School of Supply Chain, Business Analytics, and Information Systems. The contractual objectives aim to enhance legacy systems by modernizing software for consistent deployment across disparate hardware, reduced resource overhead, and improved reliability and efficiency.

“The Missile Defense Agency’s selection of Quanterion reaffirms the company’s dedication to advancing national security through innovative research and development,” said Mike Corley, Senior Software Architect. “In an era of rapid technological advancement, Quanterion is proud to partner with MDA to ensure U.S. defense systems remain at the forefront of innovation.”

The Quanterion-led team will complete a feasibility assessment and initial prototyping to employ AI/ML to automate the containerization process for legacy software. This contract offers the potential to compete for a Phase II effort to refine and mature the prototype solution. Quanterion aims to produce a game-changing capability to enable organizations across MDA and Department of War to modernize legacy software for additional platforms.
