RASTER (Reliability Approach Self-assessment Tool including Enhancement Recommendations)

Reliability is a discriminating characteristic of products in today’s marketplace, yet many companies are unsure about what is important in designing and manufacturing reliability. They sometimes lack the specialized expertise and/or experience to use their resources wisely in “making reliability happen.”

Over the years, Quanterion’s engineers have often been tasked to perform independent reviews (or audits) on all types of companies’ reliability approaches, and to provide advice on how they can do a better job. Based on this experience and other benchmarking efforts, we’ve developed the “RASTER (Reliability Approach Self-assessment Tool including Enhancement Recommendations)” as a FREE tool for organizations to perform quick self-assessments of their approaches to reliability.

The RASTER tool asks a series of simple multiple choice questions in six areas important to designing and building reliability into products:

  1. Defining Reliability Program
  2. Developing Reliability Requirements
  3. Designing for Reliability
  4. Assessing Reliability Progress
  5. Measuring Product Reliability
  6. Ensuring Reliable Performance

Once you’ve selected your multiple choice answers, you’re provided a quantitative score based on a five-point system, but probably more importantly, you’re provided some recommendations for improvement. It couldn’t be much easier. Of course, the use of a simple analysis like this can’t be considered a comprehensive assessment, but it can help start your organization on a path to better product reliability.
